A Little Bit About Me

Updated: Oct 29, 2018

Hi There!! My name is Michael Castillo and I am the owner and founder of Under Angel Wings Care Home. I would like to start this introduction out by thanking you for taking the time to visit our site and reading our blog. I am truly grateful to have been blessed with the opportunity to own and operate my very own assisted living community. I understand just how difficult it is to have to think about placing a loved in the care of another individual. Or perhaps you have come to the realization that it would be beneficial to move to a community where you yourself could receive assistance. Whatever the reason may be it does not change the fact that it is a very challenging decision to make.

Many thoughts may come to fruition, such as guilt, sadness, depression, fear, and even confusion. I mean let's face it can you trust this person/persons to care for you or your loved one? These are natural reactions and this introduction is intended to give you somewhat of an idea of who I am and who will be overseeing the care for you or your loved one. I will be there to guide you through this process and ensure the best care is given.

If you were to ask me six years ago where I would be my first response would be an infertility specialist. I have always had a passion for science and a desire to help others. I graduated from Grand Canyon University with a B.S. in Biology with an emphasis in pre-medicine. Tragedy and a desire for understanding are what led me to pursue a career in medicine. In 2010 my wife and I lost our first child. He was a stillbirth. The four pregnancies proceeding his birth ended in miscarriages. We had no answers and had no idea why this was happening. I wanted to know the why's and how's and if this could have been prevented. I figured through our grief I could help or prevent a family from going through the grief we went through.

I began volunteering for Hospice of the Valley in 2013. It was here where my passion for elderly care began to bloom. I loved every second of it, from making breakfast to playing Elvis's blue suede shoes I always tried to make the best out of every moment. Some Sunday's weren't always fun and games but I always tried to make the most out of every situation. Other Sundays consisted of me comforting a terminally ill resident with classical music and a comforting hand to hold. I love the feeling I get knowing that I was able to provide comfort and companionship whenever it was needed the most. I learned from my experiences that It's the simple things that matter in life and I want to be a part of that.

I fell in love with senior care the moment I went to a farmers market for the first time, "More on that on my next post". I want to be able to provide our elders with a place they can call home, a place of happiness, a place where they feel safe. I understand that there is no place like home, but my wife and I aim to provide the home-like atmosphere that every aging adult deserves. I am not claiming to be the best in the field nor am I saying that my home is the best, but what I will say is this I promise to always provide the best care that I can give. I promise to always provide a safe and nurturing home that provides dignity, honor, and respect for all members of our community.

Sincerely, Michael J Castillo Your Care~Our Passion
